No, this isn't a post where I ask and you answer (or vice versa), instead I feel compelled to write about the television show "24".After an 18-month layoff, Jack Bauer is back on the air ... and I've finally gotten through the first four "hours" of the show.
I'll say this ... I love 24. I've loved it since it's inception. I've told friends they should watch. And I'm not even a big action/spy thriller type of guy.
One thing I've always said when telling people to watch, however, is that they have to suspend some disbelief in order to fully enjoy the show.
Can Jack really make it from Point A to Point B within an hour? Probably not. Although it is fun to realize there's NEVER been a traffic jam on 24.
Can all of these things TRULY happen in a 24-hour period? Nah. But it's fun to pretend they can.
And can Jack's daughter really manage to get kidnapped 3 times in a day? Apparently yes. She's supposedly returning sometime this season. I hope she just gets eaten by a bear, so we can put an end to her silliness.
But, as the new season gets under way ... I'm having trouble suspending some disbelief.
The reason?
The show's writer's are AGAIN playing the "someone close to the President is working with our enemies" card.
Yes, it's an intriguing notion. Yes, it's suspenseful. But, this is the like the 3rd straight season (maybe more) where there's been a traitor in the White House.
It's getting a little old guys.
I mean, honestly, think what's happened to the fictional U.S. of A. in the 24-universe, just within the last couple of years.
An ex-President is assassinated. A sitting President is tossed from office after conspiring with bad guys. The assassinated ex-President's brother is elected President, and is then attacked and incapacitated in the White House.
And, oh yeah, a nuclear weapon is detonated on American soil ... killing thousands.
Now, I can suspend disbelief as much as the next guy. But, come on ... two ex-Presidents attacked, and a third in luxury prison? Nuclear attacks? If this was the real world, the nation would be crippled (and everyone would be fleeing to Canada.)
And, after ALL this, we have ANOTHER traitor in the White House?
I'll stick with the show ... but come on guys ... I need a little more originality.
